Happy Holidays, Sailor Visitor!

Just a note to thank you for your interest in Sail the Sounds, LLC as your portal to the world of sailing this past season and to announce some things which may be of interest this winter season and in 2012!

Many of you took the opportunity to take a boat to one of the more popular destinations in Long Island, Narragansett, Buzzards Bay, and the Vineyard Sounds. Shelter Island is one of the least visited but most pleasant charter destinations and of course Block is so very convenient from Mystic. In fact, this coming season we will be offering captained and catered cruises over the weekend to Block. Take a look at the trip description later in this newsletter.

We strive each year to improve our service and tailor our offering to our sailors' needs. This year we have re-designed our website and you now can join our interactive community through Facebook and Twitter. There is also a Crew “Blog” where sailing enthusiasts can exchange their ideas. As winter envelops the New England waters we begin to think of our next summer sailing adventures. This is the best time to plan your next dream cruise and develop your navigation planning skills. To help you with this winter idyll we are offering:

A Winter Navigation Special with a 25% reduction of the ASA 105 CON Coastal Navigation Course Fee!

On the last weekend of each month (Saturday - Sunday) (Jan. - April) we will offer our two day Coastal Navigation Class. We accept only six students in each class. So think about adding this essential set of skills to your sailing repertoire.

The Block Island Captained and Catered Cruise - $1250/couple

Beginning May, 2012 we will be offering a Captained and catered (2 lunches, one breakfast from Aldo's Pastry Boat, wine and cheese and beverages snacks) round trip weekend cruise to Block Island on one of our 30+ foot boats. On hot weekends we will add air conditioning as desired. Depart Mystic at 0900 Saturday and arrive at Block Island Great Salt Pond (New Harbor) by 1300. Then ashore for independent activities and dinner (your cost) and later return to the boat to enjoy the beautifull evening. Sunday morning breakfast aboard and then ashore until a 1300 departure time. We return to Mystic by 1700. Booking at least two weeks in advanced with $500 deposit is required.

Finally, A New Way to Walk on the Water - Paddleboards!

We are now renting paddleboards for the adventurous! SUP Paddleboards are similar to oversized surfboards and are propelled while using an extra long shaft paddle from a standing position. Of course you can lay down, sit, kneel, and stand up on the board. This is a relaxing, leisurely method of spending time on the calm waters of Mystic River while exploring the Mystic Seaport fleet, or just cruising the river. Cost is $30/2 hrs. or $50/half day or $90/day. And if you want to venture to other waters you can load the board and paddle on the car roof and take off. Capt. Jim and Admiral Teresa have come to really enjoy this new West Coast sport!
