Basic Keelboat Certification (BKB101) -- $ 400 -- now you can sail in the
Mystic Hbr. on the H240 with
family and friends aboard when you rent the boat for a
half ($200/4 hrs.) or full ($320/8 hrs) day.
THEN
Coastal Navigation (CON105) -- $550 -- two days classroom training to
navigate with compass, charts,
tide & current tables using parallel ruler,
dividers, and chronometer (clock/watch);
longitude, latitude, chart symbols, depth
soundings, buoys, daymarks, and lights interpretation.
Sailing safely in
the fog and other low visibility conditions is now possible.
A full day rental of the H240 ($320/8 hrs.) is
required to "sail the triangle" from Mystic Hbr to the
Thames River and New London Harbor to Stonington,
and back to Mystic.

Basic Coastal Cruising (BCC103) -- $400 -- board a 40' sailing vessel with
diesel inboard engine and all
of the conveniences of home. Become familiar with
operating the liveaboard systems -- galley,
head and shower, cook stove and oven, fresh hot
and cold water system; see a demonstration of
electronic navigation systems and practice
Coastal Navigation skills while sailing around Fishers
Island and into New London Harbor.
Enjoy exploring the
shores of Fishers Island, east and west harbor; Stonington and Skipper's
Dock for lunch, then shopping in the unique
boutiques of Old Stonington Village; visit the
Lighthouse Museum. Or sail westward to New London
with swimming and picnic stops at Flat
Hammock or Pine Island.
AND ON TO WEEKEND AND VACATION CHARTERING
Bareboat Charterer Certification (BBC104) -- $775 -- three days living and
cruising aboard an ocean
rated sailing vessel of 36 to 40 feet. Plan your
trip provisions, sailing routes, and select
intermediate overnight stops in marinas, on
moorings, and at anchor. Program and use electronic
navigation systems using pre-departure planning
procedures. Experience harbor entry procedures
using the VHF radio and selection of overnight
berthing with anticipation of high winds and storm
readiness. Experience night harbor departure and
entries and considerations in preparing for night
sailing.
Explore Block
Island in the afternoon of the first day cruise and dinner ashore, if
desired. The
next night will include dinner and night life
ashore in Newport. Then an early morning departure
for your return to Mystic, sailing along the
southern Rhode Island shoreline while practicing more
navigation without electronic systems. Return the
vessel following procedures required by charter
companies in the United States and the Islands.
You are now prepared to take a charter vessel on an overnight trip with
your family and friends to
complete your Bareboat Charter Certification
(within 90 days of completion of BBC104; 15% charter
fee discount) and qualify as Certified Bareboat
Charterer able to rent vessels up to 50' in the BVI's
and other popular winter vacation Dreamlands.
MORE LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Serve as crew on boat deliveries anywhere between Maine and Florida;
assist in returning racing
boats from the annual Bermuda races. You will pay
your own expenses and transportation as you
build your sea time and sailing resume. With
experience you may qualify as paid crew for future
deliveries.
EARN AMERICAN SAILING ASSOCIATION ENDORSEMENTS
Cruising Catamaran (CC114) endorsement to the Bareboat Charterer
Certification -- $775 -- three days
and two nights aboard a 40' Cruising Catamaran --
which is growing to be the charter boat of
choice in the BVI's at the only American Sailing
Association Training Center in New England
certified to teach this endorsement.
Docking Endorsement -- $400 -- two days of theory and application of
various docking techniques
with and without assistance of dock lines under a
variety of wind and current conditions on a
variety of vessels.
Docking and departure are the two most anxiety producing acts on the
water.
Cruising
Spinnaker -- $200/person -- spend the day learning to fly the cruising
spinnaker to increase
your downwind sailing.
Night Sailing and Night Navigation -- $100/person -- 6
PM to midnight; learn and apply safety
procedures for night sailing; identify vessels
and navigations aids by light signals; develop
night perception techniques required to properly
estimate speeds and distances. Navigate to find
unlighted buoys and other night aids for
navigation. Gain confidence in this unusual but beautiful
environment.
Connecticut Safe Boater and Personal Watercraft Certificate --
$100/person -- one day classroom
course provides you the legal required license to
operate a vessel in Connecticut waters.
This Certificate is honored in Rhode Island and
New York states.
Private lessons -- $65 per hour, minimum four hours; maximum two
students per session. On your
vessel or charter one of ours.
